The dog doesn’t understand or doesn’t want to bark
- Try to reflect on your dog's behavior and think back to situations where you can recall your dog barked. If possible, try and replicate that situation as long as it produces a safe reaction from your dog. This may mean having a friend ring the bell or knock; squeaking a toy to get them excited; play wrestling, or another familiar method.
- If you cannot remember a situation, you may want to monitor your dog for a week or so. Watch and see what does get them excited to the point of vocalizing.
- If you can produce any little vocalizations during play, you can also build on this. Initiate play and if they do a play growl or another sound, you can Click/Treat as soon as they do.
